Item Description
A classic favorite of gem collectors and the traditional birthstone for February. Unlike most amethyst material on the market that comes from Brazil or the USA, this large, brilliant fancy oval cut hails from the Anahí mine. This locality lies in a heavily-forested area of plains and rolling hills in the tropical lowlands of far eastern Bolivia, close to the border of Brazil. It is famous for amethyst, citrine, and amethyst-citrine bicolors (“ametrine”) of stunning quality. This particular stone is from the personal stash of a noted jeweler who personally visited the locale and assisted in the mining and marketing of this exotic material. It is a truly gorgeous and collectible stone showing a rich but bright purple color that is all natural and obviously, as a quartz, is a suitable hardness for any jewelry use. (N)
