Demantoid Garnet

Demantoid is one of the rarest gem garnets and famous for its bright green color and a “fire” that exceeds that of diamond. It is a relatively hard gemstone and is resistant to scratches, making it durable for use in rings and other types of jewelry. This wonderful, 2.26 carat green demantoid gemstone is a round brilliant-cut. It is extremely clean for the material and perfectly calibrated for jewelry. It hails from the world-class and modern-day classic find in Madagascar, which has set the new modern standard for this highly desirable gem material. Plus, few rounds have been available due to efforts to maximize yields from the top percentile of the cherry-picked rough over recent collecting seasons. The cut is top rate, and the rich (but not overly dark) color makes this stone “pop” with life. It compares favorably to Russian demantoid which has been priced at over double or triple the amount. It is certainly an attention-grabber either as a set gem or in a rough-and-cut collection. From a cherry-picked collection of gems originally assembled during several years of excavation in the early 2000s by Dr. Federico Pezzotta, discoverer of Pezzottaite, who handled most of these demantoids at that time.
