Item Description

Always in demand and one of the best known collector gems found in the United States, Red Beryl is arguably the rarest gem variety in the Beryl mineral family, which includes Emerald and Aquamarine. Stones are usually very small, quite included or fractured as is typical for the material (it is never truly perfectly clean), and very seldom available. It is unfortunate that the best red color shown here is often the exception and not the norm for this material. Therefore, it is exciting to come across a rich red, lustrous, and reasonably clean gem as with this emerald cut example, which was consigned to us from an old collection and once was owned by mine owner, Rex Harris. Almost a full carat (0.91 cts) of intense and saturated color combined with reasonably good clarity make this a highly desirable stone...the kind of thing that collectors tend to snap up almost as fast as they are cut. Standard ExCel resin treatment for clarity and stability in beryl is noted. Note that this treatment is permanent (unlike oil); and only helps the clarity, without changing or enhancing color. Valued $3500. (E)
