Item Description

Zircon is zirconium silicate and the oldest known mineral on Earth. It has good hardness (6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale) and it combines a very high refractive index (near that of diamond) with strong dispersion— the property of splitting white light into the colors of the spectrum. This makes zircons very brilliant gems with impressive “fire” and a favorite among collectors and informed consumers alike. This vibrantly colored zircon is unlike the more commonly seen heated blue examples. It is among the exotic color varieties known as “Spice” zircons from Tanzania. Another remarkable thing is that these gems tend to be large. Superbly cut and polished stone that is perfect for collection or a piece of dramatic jewelry (in a calibrated size) — and a traditional birthstone for December. 4.53cts. (H)
