Tourmaline

Of all the varieties of green tourmaline, different people like different tones and saturations. This is a particularly fine example of a classic Brazilian pure green color in a fine, deeply saturated green stone (called “verdelite” in the gem trade) that is both eye clean and nicely cut. The proportions are great, and its size (over 10 carats!) is good for a feature jewelry stone to wear, or a collection of loose gems. It is quite an "energetic" gem that catches the eye from a distance — very bright and lively under direct lights. Green gems have always made for the most regal and fashionable jewelry. Standard heating of colored tourmalines (to enhance color, a permanent process) only, is said to have been performed on this. (H)
